Topic: 2025: Mind the Uncertainty
Speaker: Shruti Mishra, US Economist – Bank of America
Session Description: The US economy went into the elections with structural and cyclical tailwinds supporting its growth outlook. There is growing evidence that productivity gains have raised potential growth, and the consumer has been remarkably resilient on the back of a stable labor market. The Republican sweep in the elections is likely to bring sweeping policy changes to trade, fiscal, immigration and deregulatory policies. For now, we expect stable growth, sticky inflation and a Fed that is on hold. However, there is still very little clarity on policy priorities. This session will cover the distribution of risks to our base case on account of policy uncertainty and other factors.
Shruti Mishra is a US Economist at Bank of America. Her primary focus is on analyzing the labor market and the GDP outlook. In addition to that, she also looks at the US consumer and contributes to the widely read "BofA on USA" card data report, as well as other thematic research on the real economy. Her comments on the economy regularly appear in CNBC, CNN, Bloomberg, Yahoo Finance and Financial Times. Mishra has a Ph.D. in economics from Columbia University with a specialization in macroeconomics and finance and worked at the IMF during her PhD.
